I'm guessing the Universe is just in the mood to fuck with me.

The situtation of previous posts has actually been worked out (for the most part). There are some issues still, but these are ones that I am content to let take time to work out since they are a bit complicated.

So the last several days, I have been feeling much better. To acknowledge this the Universe has cut back the Eye Candy view to normal levels for this area.

In fact today started off well. Though feeling burned out on work recently (so looking forward to the vacation I am taking in September), I actually was in a good mood going into the office today. Then I went through my emails.

For those that don't know I recently pulled back from being the Department Head for Operations at my company. I did this because in review I found that I am better suited for directing projects and systems than people. So, with no reduction in pay or bonuses or anything like that I made a move to be incharge of a few of the systems and be the first line IT guy for the company (this means any of the simple stuff I fix instead of calling in our Contracted IT guy). The company put someone else in charge of the department, and all was well... until I read my emails this morning.

It seems my "supervisor" has decided to write up a reprimand for my Personnel File. The reprimand starts off with "After several attempts to deal with..."

Well not ONCE has she ever pulled me aside and said: "Eric, I have concerns or problems with this situtation..." I also feel the various things she quotes in the reprimand are erroneously presented or wrong. My first impulse was to get up and walk out. Thankfully I don't usually listen to my first impulse when it comes to my job.

What I have decided to do is write up a protest response to this reprimand to go in the file with it... since I am apparently suppose to sign and acknowledge the write up. The only thing I have to decide yet is if I am going to give her the curtesy of letting her know I am doing this or giving it to her as a surprise.

I'm leaning towards the surprise thing as I am feeling a bit like a vindictive bitch.

Suggestion, based a bit on my recent Dennis experience:

When you write the protest, print out a copy to attach to the file, sure, and let her see it. But, if you have a HR person, also e-mail the protest response directly to the HR person, saying that you are ccing this to the person as a courtesy. Tell your supervisor you have sent a copy to HR.

My own situation right now would be entirely different if Dennis had, in fact, forwarded my commentary on the performance review he wrote about me. So would that of many, many other people.

Oh trust me, while I have written the respone addressed to her, I cc the company President on it and I will make sure a copy goes in the file with her memo when they actually have me sign it.

Sign nothing.

Insist that this issue be escalated to her manager. There is no reason you must accept a reprimand if you feel it to not be justified. Bring along your response. If her boss sides with her, don't sign the reprimand unless your response is also signed by the both of them. Then copy it and give them the copy for your file.

When Marie was fired by AmEx her previous Team Lead added several reprimands to her file to try to justify her termination when we went for unemployment. Fortunately for us, the arbitrator [whatever their title was] didn't buy into their crap. But who knows where this will go down the road. play it safe.
